Priya Mishra | Team TrickyScribe: In a historic stride towards strengthening Bihar’s education system ahead of upcoming state assembly elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar distributed appointment letters to 51,389 newly recruited teachers at a grand ceremony held at sprawling Patna Gandhi Maidan. The Chief Minister personally handed over symbolic appointment letters to select teachers, including Nootan Kumari, Aarti Kumari, Varsha Raj, and others, extending his heartfelt congratulations.

A Commitment to Educational Excellence

Addressing the gathering, Nitish Kumar underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to education. He recalled the transformative steps taken since assuming office, emphasizing large-scale recruitment drives aimed at addressing teacher shortages. He lauded the recent recruitment of over 2.68 lakh teachers in three phases and announced an additional 42,918 headmaster appointments slated for next month. With this, Bihar will soon boast 3,11,466 newly appointed teachers through BPSC selections, a testament to the state’s dedication to educational reform.

A Paradigm Shift in Teacher Appointments

The Chief Minister reminisced about the early years when Bihar faced a severe shortage of teachers, prompting the government to hire nearly 3.68 lakh teachers through Panchayats and urban bodies. Acknowledging their contribution, he introduced a unique initiative allowing them to attain government teacher status through special competency exams. So far, 2,53,961 contract teachers have transitioned into permanent roles, with provisions for the remaining 86,039 to avail future opportunities. As a result, Bihar is set to witness an unprecedented rise in government teachers, reaching an impressive tally of 5,65,427.

Empowering Girls Through Education

Nitish Kumar passionately spoke about the revolutionary steps taken to promote girls’ education in Bihar. He highlighted landmark initiatives like the bicycle scheme, launched in 2008 to encourage girls to attend school, later extended to boys in 2010. Additionally, financial incentives for girls completing Class 12 have been raised from ₹10,000 to ₹25,000, and for graduates, from ₹25,000 to ₹50,000. These efforts have led to an inspiring transformation, with gender parity now evident in Bihar’s classrooms.

A Vision for an Educated Bihar

The Chief Minister reaffirmed his vision for a well-educated Bihar, urging teachers to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to nurturing young minds. He emphasized that education remains a top financial priority, with 22% of the state’s budget allocated to the sector—a figure set to rise in the coming years. He urged teachers to foster a learning environment where no child faces barriers to education, ensuring that Bihar emerges as a knowledge hub.

A Collective Effort for a Brighter Future

The event saw the presence of several distinguished leaders, including Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, alongside key ministers and senior bureaucrats. A book was presented to the Chief Minister by Dr. S. Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, marking the occasion.

With over five lakh newly appointed and regularized teachers, Bihar’s education sector stands on the cusp of a monumental transformation. As these educators step into their new roles, they carry with them not just appointment letters but the promise of shaping the future of countless young minds, scripting a brighter chapter in Bihar’s educational journey.

Distributing Job Letters at Gandhi Maidan Was My Idea, Claims Tejashwi

Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has claimed that the idea of distributing job appointment letters at Gandhi Maidan was originally his, which the NDA government has now copied. However, he alleged that 16% of the reservation quota meant for backward classes, Dalits, and tribals has been snatched away, depriving 8,222 candidates of their rightful jobs.

Tejashwi accused the BJP-JD(U) government of betraying social justice, asserting that his government had conducted a caste-based survey to ensure equitable reservation, increasing it to 65%. He reiterated that the RJD would continue its fight to secure 65% reservation under the 9th Schedule of the Constitution, following the Tamil Nadu model, and would not let the deprived communities suffer.

Tejashwi also criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for ignoring the grievances of BPSC aspirants, despite RJD sending multiple letters demanding justice. He claimed that the current appointment drive was merely the implementation of pending recruitment from his tenure, where his government had planned 3.5 lakh job appointments.

Accusing the BJP of being anti-reservation and anti-democratic, he said the ruling alliance is deliberately avoiding real issues like poverty, migration, and inflation, instead oppressing marginalized communities, minorities, and women. Vowing to fight for the rights of the deprived, Tejashwi assured that RJD would continue its struggle both on the streets and in the legislature to protect reservation and ensure justice.
