Ganesh Kumar | Team TrickyScribe: In a dramatic turn of events, Mohammad Hafid Chayakoth, a 34-year-old resident of Kozhikode, Kerala, was apprehended at the Raxaul border on the India-Nepal frontier while attempting to flee to Thailand via Kathmandu.

The alleged mastermind behind a massive cyber fraud scheme thought he could outrun justice, but the vigilant eyes of the Raxaul Immigration Department brought his plans to a screeching halt. Authorities detained him as he tried to slip through Nepal, marking a critical moment in a case that has gripped law enforcement across states and nations.

Cybercrime in Bengaluru

Chayakoth’s troubles began in 2022 when a case (100/2022) was registered against him at Bengaluru’s South East CEN Police Station. Accused of orchestrating a sophisticated cyber fraud and money laundering operation involving crores of rupees, he faces charges under sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act for identity theft and cheating by impersonation, alongside sections 419 and 420 of the IPC for cheating and fraud. The scale of the alleged scam has left victims reeling and authorities determined to bring him to justice.

A Desperate Bid for Freedom

With the law closing in, Chayakoth allegedly hatched a plan to evade capture by fleeing to Thailand. His journey took him to Kathmandu, Nepal, a common transit point for those seeking to disappear. But his luck ran out at the Raxaul border, where sharp-eyed immigration officials spotted discrepancies and detained him. Currently held at the Haraiya/Raxaul Police Station, Chayakoth awaits the arrival of Bangalore Police, who are en route to take him into custody and bring him back to face the music.

The Law Closes In

The arrest has sent shockwaves through the cybercrime underworld, serving as a stark reminder that no border can shield those who prey on the vulnerable. As Kerala and Bangalore police coordinate to unravel the full extent of Chayakoth’s alleged crimes, questions remain: How did he manage to evade authorities for so long? And what other secrets might this case uncover? For now, the people of India wait as justice takes its course, proving once again that no one can outrun the long arm of the law.

A Warning to Criminals Eyeing Nepal Border

This high-profile capture underscores the growing threat of cyber fraud and the relentless efforts of law enforcement to combat it. As technology advances, so do the tactics of those who exploit it—but so too does the resolve of those tasked with protecting society. Mohammad Hafid Chayakoth’s story is a cautionary tale for would-be criminals: no matter how far you run, the truth will always catch up.
