Team TrickyScribe: In a major step towards accelerating India’s decarbonisation efforts, the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) and the Carbon Market Association of India (CMAI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi. This landmark agreement was unveiled on February 4, 2025, during the inaugural session of the IICA-CMAI Masterclass on Global & Indian Carbon Markets. The event was graced by Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road, Transport & Highways, who underscored the critical role of biofuels and green hydrogen in driving India’s economic and environmental transformation.

During his address, Gadkari shared insights into pilot projects on Bio Bitumen, Bio Aviation Fuel, and Bio CNG, reinforcing the mantra that “No material is waste.” Stressing the need for Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in sustainable energy, he expressed confidence that India will pioneer green hydrogen at just $1 per kg, thanks to advanced research and development initiatives.
The Minister also highlighted ongoing government efforts to diversify the biofuels sector, making India a global exporter of Green Hydrogen. He lauded the launch of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Alliance and commended IICA and CMAI for their commitment to capacity-building in this crucial domain.
IICA’s Certificate Programme to Build Carbon Market Expertise
Dr. Garima Dadhich, Head, School of Business Environment, IICA, announced the launch of the IICA Certificate Programme in Decarbonisation, aimed at equipping corporate professionals with expertise in carbon offset mechanisms and long-term decarbonisation strategies.
CMAI to Drive Awareness & Industry Participation in Carbon Markets
Manish Dabkara, President, CMAI, emphasized that the MoU marks a significant step in building a robust carbon market ecosystem in India. He highlighted the importance of training programs, research, and conferences in fostering sustainable business practices.
Rohit Kumar, Secretary General, CMAI, pointed out that awareness remains a key challenge in the sector. By leveraging CMAI’s industry expertise and IICA’s institutional strength, the partnership aims to create impactful learning opportunities for India’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
