Law Kumar Mishra | Team TrickyScribe: Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Saturday made a surprise visit to BN College, where a student was killed in a bomb blast two days ago.

Governor’s On-Ground Inspection

The Governor stayed on the college campus for 45 minutes, visited hostels, toured different departments, and held meetings with the college principal and students.

Khan, who had once served as President of Aligarh Muslim University, condemned the bombing and the killing of a student inside the campus.

Sharp Criticism of University Leadership

Earlier, while addressing a gathering of media persons at the Bihar Industries Association, he expressed regret over the insensitivity of the Vice Chancellor of Patna University towards the violence on campus. He remarked, “The university has been handed over to anti-social elements.”

Accountability Demanded, Governance Questioned

A visibly furious Governor raised questions about the functioning of the Vice Chancellor and added, “A similar incident had taken place last year. When I assumed office at Raj Bhawan in January, I had called the VC and asked him to submit a report on the lawlessness in the university.”

“After the latest bombing, I summoned the VC yesterday and inquired whether the report sought four months back had been submitted to Raj Bhawan. The VC had the audacity to say — yes, the report is ready, but still needs to be signed by me.”

Khan added, “I told the VC that now, meetings won’t be held at Raj Bhawan, but directly inside the colleges.” The Governor then spontaneously rushed to BN College.

“I Feel Ashamed,” Says Khan

Expressing anguish, Khan said, “I feel ashamed. I am in great pain, in tears over the functioning of the universities in Bihar.”

“Worst-Managed Universities in the Country”

Governor Khan claimed Bihar’s universities are among the worst-managed in the country, and alleged that newly appointed teachers are being threatened.

The Bihar Governor further articulated, “I have served as Chancellor of 15 universities in Kerala, but I have never witnessed such lawlessness as I have in Bihar.”

“There was only one issue — appointments on certain ideological bases, which I never succumbed to,” he added.
