NCL Training Housewives Against Contingencies

by Editor's Desk

Team TrickyScribe: In a landmark initiative, Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has launched a large-scale First Aid Training Program for Homemakers. Recognizing that housewives are often the first responders to medical emergencies at home, NCL aims to equip them with essential life-saving skills. This ambitious program, which began on 26th January 2025, is set to cover 8,000 homemakers by June 2025.

Training 1,500 Homemakers in a Month

Within just one month of its launch, the program has already trained 1,500 homemakers across various NCL projects. These women, the backbone of their families, are now gaining critical first aid knowledge, enhancing their ability to handle medical emergencies effectively. By integrating first aid training into household safety measures, NCL is not only empowering women but also strengthening community healthcare.

From Everyday Incidents to Life-Saving Interventions

Medical emergencies at home can range from minor injuries to life-threatening situations. The training program covers a wide spectrum of first aid responses, including:

Burns and Cuts: Proper wound care to prevent infections.

Choking and Poisoning: Immediate actions to clear airways and neutralize toxins.

Heat Strokes and Fainting: Handling heat-related illnesses, crucial in coal mining regions.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): A lifesaving skill for cardiac emergencies.

Reducing the Burden on Medical Services

By training homemakers in first aid, NCL is not only ensuring safer households but also reducing the pressure on medical professionals. Timely intervention in medical emergencies can prevent complications and, in some cases, save lives before professional help arrives.

A First-of-Its-Kind Initiative in the Mining Region

This initiative is one of the largest community-driven first-aid programs undertaken in coal mining areas, where access to immediate medical care is often limited. Conducted by NCL’s in-house medical professionals, the sessions focus on practical applications, ensuring that the trainees can confidently respond to emergencies in real-life situations.

Towards a Prepared and Resilient Society

With a target of training 8,000 homemakers by mid-2025, NCL is setting a precedent for other industries to follow. By fostering a culture of preparedness, the initiative is making Indian households safer and more self-reliant.

In the long run, empowering homemakers with first aid skills is not just about responding to emergencies—it’s about building a more resilient and health-conscious society.
