Anand Raj | Team TrickyScribe: Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, is set to become the next Chief Minister of Delhi. She will replace Atishi, another first-time MLA, marking a significant shift in the state’s leadership.
Parvesh Verma, the ‘Giant Slayer,’ likely to be Deputy CM
Despite speculation around Parvesh Verma’s appointment as CM, he will instead serve as Gupta’s deputy. Verma, known as the ‘giant slayer,’ defeated Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, solidifying his influence in Delhi politics.
Swearing-In Ceremony at Ramlila Ground
Gupta will be administered the oath of office and secrecy at Ramlila Ground on Thursday, along with six cabinet ministers. At 50, she brings a fresh perspective to Delhi politics, unburdened by past controversies and committed to delivering on her party’s election promises.
A Clean Slate: No Criminal Cases Against the New CM
Gupta’s election affidavit highlights a rare feat—she has no criminal cases against her, not even for model code violations. This is notable, given that most politicians face at least minor electoral complaints.
Political Roots: From ABVP to Chief Minister
A two-time MCD councillor, Gupta has deep-rooted connections in the RSS and has served in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). She was also the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU). She completed her graduation from Daulat Ram College and earned her LLB in 2022 from IMIRC College of Law, Ghaziabad, affiliated with Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut.
Family & Financial Background
Gupta’s affidavit reveals that her husband, Manish Gupta, is an Agency Associate at Kotak Life Insurance and runs Nikunj Enterprises. The couple has movable assets worth ₹1.25 crore and ₹1.14 crore, respectively. They own two flats in Delhi with a combined market value of ₹2.30 crore. However, they also have outstanding loans—₹48.44 lakh in Gupta’s name and ₹70.39 lakh under her husband’s.
Delhi’s Fourth Woman CM
Gupta is set to become the second woman Chief Minister from BJP in Delhi after Sushma Swaraj and the fourth woman CM overall in the state’s history. Sushma Swaraj, Shiela Dikshit and Atishi have served as Delhi CM earlier.
Cabinet Ministers Expected to Join the New Government
Following her election as the Delhi Legislature Party leader, Gupta met Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, who formally appointed her as the Chief Minister. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 12 noon.
Probable cabinet includes:
• Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma
• Manjinder Singh Sirsa
