Team TrickyScribe: In a story that’s both fascinating and alarming, Dharmendra Kumar from Bagaha, Bihar, is grabbing national attention for crafting a new martial art — ‘Croco Style’.
Preparing for professional ring fighting, Kumar treks 12 kilometres daily to Goiti, where he studies the gait, stealth, and strike of over 100 wild marsh crocodiles. Mimicking their sudden and ferocious attacks, he aims to incorporate their deadly precision into his fighting techniques.
Learning from Nature — at a Dangerous Cost
While his daring discipline has gone viral, wildlife experts are sounding the alarm. Sameer Sinha, Chief Ecologist at Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), condemned the practice, stating:
“While humans can learn many valuable lessons from nature, the manner in which this individual is attempting to develop a fighting style based on crocodile movements is not only dangerous for him but also highly irresponsible — especially when it involves provoking wildlife in their natural habitat for personal gain.”
Dharmendra can apparently be seen provoking basking muggers (marsh crocodiles) to imitate their aggressive movements — a stunt that could easily turn deadly. Furthermore, he defends his act!
Breaking the Law: A Fight Against Nature’s Rules
Beyond personal risk, Kumar’s antics violate the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Disturbing protected wildlife is a punishable offence in India. Experts warn that promoting such behavior encourages others to engage in similar illegal and hazardous activities, further endangering both humans and wildlife.
“Muggers are powerful predators capable of taking down large animals,” Sinha stressed. “Such irresponsible behavior not only endangers the individual but also undermines conservation efforts.”
The Thin Line Between Inspiration and Irresponsibility
Dharmendra’s ambition to innovate in martial arts is undeniable, but his methods highlight the perils of crossing the thin line between admiration of nature and recklessness. As his “Croco Style” continues to capture public imagination, authorities are now being urged to intervene before admiration turns into tragedy.
