Ravi Kumar | Team TrickyScribe: In a significant incident in Bihar’s Vaishali district, District Magistrate Yashpal Meena was held in an 8-hour standoff by employees and officials following allegations of misconduct and the use of offensive language toward subordinates.
The protest, which began around 9 AM and continued until the evening, saw widespread outrage among local administrative staff, including the Circle Officer (CO), Revenue Officer (RO), and other revenue department employees.
The employees allege that DM Meena has repeatedly used derogatory terms, including “Bihari” in a dismissive context, which they claim has impacted their self-respect and workplace morale. The protestors further revealed that during meetings, Meena often used phrases like “useless Bihari,” creating a hostile work environment where employees felt demeaned and threatened.
The Block Development Officer (BDO) of Vaishali joined the employees in voicing concerns, standing in solidarity with his colleagues against what he described as unacceptable behavior by the District Magistrate. Adding to the tension, reports emerged that two employees were detained on verbal orders from Meena, leading to further frustration and unrest among the protesting staff.
In a formal complaint to the Bihar Revenue Service Association (BIRSA), the affected employees noted that despite their dedication to handling tasks such as land measurement, encroachment removal, public grievances, Aadhaar updates, PDS schemes, and water supply projects, they routinely face harsh criticism and even threats of imprisonment from the District Magistrate.
The employees highlighted the round-the-clock nature of their work, especially during law enforcement and disaster management duties, emphasizing that they often sacrifice holidays and personal time to remain on duty. However, they allege that instead of recognition, they are frequently subjected to what they describe as “insulting language” and threats.
After several hours of protests, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) intervened to mediate the situation. The SDM assured the employees that such misunderstandings would be addressed and that steps would be taken to ensure a respectful and professional work environment going forward. This assurance helped bring an end to the demonstration, and employees resumed their regular duties by 6 PM.
The incident has stirred discussions within local administrative circles, highlighting the critical need for respectful communication and professional conduct in workplace leadership.
