RAVI RAJHANS | The TrickyScribe Editorial Volunteer Network: ZEISS, a global leader in optics and optoelectronics, has officially opened its Global Capability Center (GCC) in Bengaluru, enhancing its commitment to digital transformation, research, and innovation within India. The inauguration was done by Karnataka’s Minister of Electronics, IT & BT, Rural Development, and Panchayat Raj, Priyank Kharge.

A Strategic Hub for Innovation and Expansion

The 43,000 sq.ft. facility is set to become a significant technology and research center, tapping into Bengaluru’s rich IT talent pool. With a current team of 600 experts specializing in Medical Technologies, Vision Care, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud, and Digital Transformation, ZEISS India GCC plans to double this workforce by the end of 2028. The expansion aims to enhance ZEISS’s global R&D footprint by utilizing local expertise in advanced tech solutions.

“The journey of ZEISS in India highlights the country’s role as a premier global investment hub,” said Minister Priyank Kharge at the event. “India hosts over 4,000 Global Capability Centers (GCCs), with Karnataka contributing 38%. Our state has the capacity to drive growth in sectors like agritech, aerospace, and technology, and we welcome more such alliances to drive impactful solutions.”

Public-Private Collaboration to Empower Startups

To further enhance the region’s Research and Development (R&D) ecosystem, ZEISS has collaborated with the Karnataka Government to boost support for start-ups. The partnership includes establishing a collaborative center where ZEISS will contribute its infrastructure and technical expertise while startups add agility and innovation. Through this initiative, the two entities will accelerate the commercialization of products like AI-based diagnostics and smart optical devices, with a goal of introducing a significant number of these solutions to the market within three years.

“This center represents our dedication to sustainable and scalable innovation,” remarked Dhaval Radia, Chief Financial Officer at ZEISS India. “By investing in this new GCC, ZEISS demonstrates a strong commitment to accelerating digital transformation within the company and creating a foundation for growth in India.”

Bringing Vision Care to Rural Karnataka

Another crucial initiative announced at the event was ZEISS India’s partnership with the Karnataka Government to improve access to quality vision care in underserved and rural regions. Through ZEISS’s Aloka Vision Program, the collaboration aims to reach over 100,000 individuals over the next three years. The program will provide affordable eye-care services, especially to schoolchildren who might face academic setbacks due to undiagnosed vision issues.

A Strategic Bet on India’s Innovation Potential

The opening of this expanded GCC underscores ZEISS’s confidence in the Indian market’s potential for technology and development. By fostering local talent, partnering with the government, and supporting start-ups, ZEISS is well-positioned to address evolving technological demands and healthcare needs across India.

The new center reflects ZEISS’s ambition to grow its footprint in India, blending local expertise and cutting-edge solutions to meet global needs. With its focus on digital transformation and R&D collaborations, ZEISS India GCC is poised to become a cornerstone in the company’s journey toward innovation, growth, and positive societal impact.
