PM inaugurates urban development projects in Madhya Pradesh

The TrickyScribe: Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi on Saturday said in Indore that Swachh Bharat was Mahatma Gandhi’s dream which has now become the resolve of 1.25 billion Indians. He said the entire country must take inspiration from Indore, which has been declared the cleanest city in India.

The PM also appreciated the work of three best performing states in the sector of cleanliness – Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. He spoke at length about the progress being made in sanitation and expressed his confidence that Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of sanitation will become a reality across all the Indian states and union territories by his 150th birth anniversary that is scheduled to be celebrated the next year. Towards modernizing infrastructure

The Prime Minister elaborated on the progress being made by the government agencies towards modernizing urban infrastructure in India. In addition to the Swachh Bharat Mission, he cited the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Urban), the Smart City Mission, AMRUT and Deendayal Upadhyay National Urban Livelihood Mission.

7 MP cities to be made “smart”

Recalling the inauguration of Integrated Command and Control Centre in Naya Raipur – India’s first smart city – a few days ago, Modi said a similar exercise is now underway in seven cities of Madhya Pradesh. He also apprised the audience in detail about the progress being made in various urban development initiatives in Madhya Pradesh and said that more than one lakh homeless people in Madhya Pradesh have got their own house through the housing projects inaugurated today.

At an event organized in Indore, the PM also remotely inaugurated urban development projects at various locations across the state. The projects include houses under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana, urban drinking water supply schemes, urban solid waste management, urban sanitation, urban transportation and urban landscape projects.

Housing for all by 2022

PM Modi said his government is burning the midnight oil for providing housing for all by 2022. The PM said that in the last four years, approximately 1.15 crore houses have been constructed and nearly 2 crore more houses are to be constructed by 2022.

Speaking further on the housing project, he said that the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana is also becoming a means for generating employment and women empowerment. Modi also distributed the Swachh Survekshan-2018 Awards and launched Swachh Survekshan-2018 results dashboard on the occasion.
