Ajmer Alam Wani: Stressing the need to adapt to the changing climate in agricultural production, Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura directed the officers concerned of agriculture and its allied wings on Tuesday to gear up their field representatives and work in unison for implementation of government schemes.
Review Meet
Chairing a review meeting on Climate Resilient projects, the Minister was apprised that work on two such projects were on way. It was given out that the department has so far spent Rs 5 lakh in Budgam block. Similarly, a sum of Rs 14 lakh has been spent in Bhalwal block in Jammu. The projects will incur an estimated cost of Rs 12 crore each.

Project Profile
In their bid to tackling water scarcity, a resultant of climate change, the projects would provide water and other irrigational facilities to farm lands in hilly parched areas of the State. The project also envisages minimizing and containing adverse effects of climate change.
Budgetary Allocations
It was informed that climate resilient aggregation project in block Bhalwal in Jammu and Surisyar block in Budgam would be started at a project cost of Rs 22.5 lakh. These projects act as pilots and their successful completion will be followed by their extension to the other parts of the State, realization the objective of enhanced resilience of agriculture crops, livestock and fisheries through development and application of improved production and management technologies being the prime motto.
Minister Says
The Minister directed the officers to maintain close co-ordination among the stakeholder government departments for effective implementation of the schemes. He urged officers to extend the Climate Resilient projects to earmarked vulnerable zones to ensure benefit of the local farmers. He also told the officers to ink a Memorendum of Understanding with Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for technical guidance for the formulation new agriculture development schemes.
