Days back, when PM Narendra Damodardas Modi mocked the DNA of technocrat turned politico Bihar CM Nitish Kumar in a BJP rally organized in the state, he stocked a major controversy. Nitish, on his part, was not dumb enough to miss the opportunity.
Not only did he come up with an open letter for the PM but also demanded “Shabd Wapasi”. With the issue boiling, the RJD-JD (U) conglomerate finally decided to stage an organized protest and Nitish also claimed that statement has hurt the Bihari masses to a larger extent. He also stated that he would send the samples of 50 Lakh Biharis to the Prime MInister as a mark of protest.
This is not the bigger picture yet. The issue is that will the Bihari voters endorse the coming together of ‘Sushashan Babu’ and the alleged epitome of ‘Jungle Raj’? The same Jungle Raj against which he raised his flag a decade back. Will the voters not understand the political opportunistism shown by Nitish.
A Delhi-based Bihari software engineer who did not wish to be quoted said: “I was in my native place on the day Lalu-Nitish organized a Bihar Bund. Not only did the Bund cripple the services in the state, the vandalism the Bund supporters displayed was horrific. It reminded of the 20 years of Jungle Raj. This, at least was not expected from NItish.”
Whatsoever the reason may be, the politicos must not forget that they are given the charge of the state not to rule but to assist. They must understand that they are not only answerable to their own voters’ base but also to those who voted for the other candidates as well.
After all “Democracy is the government of the people, by the people, for the people” and people shall not suffer due to political compulsions of a handful of opportunists.
