Saurabh Rathore | The TrickyScribe: A major loot attempt was averted on the Patna-New Delhi Tejas Rajdhani Express (Train No. 12309) on the night of October 22, according to an exclusive report by a coach attendant. The shocking incident, which occurred just a kilometer before the Prayagraj station, has gone largely unreported until now.
The attempted robbery involved a group of men, described as “Jallad”-like, trying to break into multiple coaches—B3, B5, B7, and B11—through the gangway corridor. The train was brought to a halt using a coin on the tracks at an interjection point near Prayagraj.
Quick Thinking Prevents Robbery
One of the train’s attendants, who played a crucial role in preventing the loot, shared details of the harrowing experience. “Fortunately, we were awake and immediately acted when we noticed the men trying to enter the train. I grabbed a fire extinguisher and threw it at a heavily-built man, stopping him from entering the corridor,” said the attendant.
The attackers had seemingly planned the heist in advance, but thanks to the swift actions of the alert attendants, they were unable to gain access to the coaches. “My fellow attendants were equally vigilant and capable, and we managed to stop these ‘dacoits’ from looting the passengers,” the attendant added.
Lack of Recognition and Concerns Over Security
Despite their brave efforts, the coach attendants were met with accusations instead of commendation. According to the attendant, upon reaching Delhi, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) was informed about the incident. However, instead of acknowledging their heroic actions, higher officials allegedly accused the attendants of sleeping on the job.
“We were called in for questioning in the Delhi yard, and instead of appreciating our actions, we were blamed for negligence,” the attendant said. He expressed frustration over the lack of recognition and called for enhanced security measures on trains.
“We’ve been serving passengers for over two decades, and we take our responsibilities seriously. Incidents like this highlight the need for better security arrangements to protect passengers and staff alike.”
Call for Enhanced Security
This incident sheds light on the vulnerability of long-distance trains and the need for improved security protocols. With increasing reports of robbery attempts on trains, the safety of passengers and railway staff must be prioritized. The attendants’ quick response prevented a potential disaster, but it also raises questions about the preparedness of railway authorities to handle such situations.
In light of this incident, the railway authorities are urged to review and tighten security measures on long-distance trains, especially those passing through high-risk zones. The brave actions of the attendants in this case should serve as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the need for better support and recognition for railway staff.
While talking to The TrickyScribe, an RPF Prayagraj official pleading anonymity confirmed the incident and informed search operations were launched by the authorities. During the search, two persons were noticed fleeing the point of occurrence, the official revealed. Although he vehemently denied involvement of a bigger nexus, it is likely that more miscreants were involved as similar attempts were simultaneously executed in three other coaches as alleged by the coach attendant.
