Bihar Celebrates 35th Foundation Day of COMFED
The TrickyScribe: In what may seem an apparent jibe on friend-turned-foe who claims his lineage from a cattle-rearing family, RJD Supremo Lalu Yadav, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Wednesday claimed to have multiplied milk production in the state.

CM Nitish said daily milk production in the state has skyrocketed from a mere 4 lakh liters to 20.85 lakh liters. He did not stop and pledged his will for bringing in further improvement in the magnitude prevalent. Nitish was addressing a programme organized in Bapu Sabhagar, Patna, to mark the 35th foundation day of Bihar State Milk Co-operative Federation Limited (COMFED).
Six new units
Bihar CM on Wednesday inaugurated two milk powder manufacturing units, one each in Samastipur and Hajipur besides two ice cream production plants in Patna and Biharsharif, a fodder manufacturing unit in Patna and a dairy project in Supaul with combined expenditure on the six projects being Rs 144 crore.
Bihar a potential market
Elaborating on the financial assistance given to COMFED for the establishment of new units, the CM said the state had the proper potential for being an attractive market for milk and associated products. The grant, therefore, aims at filling the yet empty milk-glasses, he said.
Inculcating self-confidence in women
Lauding the 2,653 women only cooperatives operational in the state, Nitish said not only will the involvement of womenfolk in economic activities bring financial stability in the families concerned but will also infuse a sense of confidence in every single one of them. Not to mention, the hike in the per capita income in the state.
Hike in milk trade
Speaking on the occasion, Bihar animal and fisheries department minister Pashupati Kumar Paras said that more than 11 lakh farmers are direct beneficiaries of COMFED which has recorded annual trade of over Rs 4,000 crore in the recent past.
The newly commissioned units will prove fruitful for the state in the near future, Paras said and added that milk-producers will get their due share in the profit margins.
