Team TrickyScribe: In a significant development and in the run up to the assembly elections, Alka Tiwari, a 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Punjab cadre, has been elevated to the post of Chief Secretary (CS), Jharkhand.

A notification to this effect was issued by the state’s personnel department on Friday. Tiwari, who was Secretary of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), has replaced L Khiyangte, who superannuated as the CS on October 31. Tiwari’s new posting marks a milestone in her extensive administrative career.

Tiwari’s journey as an IAS officer has been characterized by her dedication to public service and her extensive expertise in governance. This appointment not only signifies her capabilities but also highlights the trust placed in her by the Jharkhand government.

Known for her strategic insight and decision-making abilities, Tiwari is a Harvard alumna who brings to her new role a wealth of experience from her years of service in various capacities across state and central government departments.

Notably, Tiwari’s appointment to the highest administrative position in the state also brings her in line with her husband, former IAS officer DK Tiwari, who previously served as Chief Secretary of Jharkhand.

A 1986-batch IAS officer DK Tiwari was known for his close working relationship with the present dispensation. Following his retirement, he was appointed as Jharkhand’s State Election Commissioner, a role in which he continues to contribute to the state’s governance.

Alka Tiwari’s elevation as the CS is expected to strengthen administrative continuity in Jharkhand, especially given her family’s legacy of service within the state. She has worked in various departments of the state government as the secretary and had an unblemished career record.

With her extensive background and strong connections within the administrative framework, Tiwari is expected to play a crucial role in furthering Jharkhand’s development agenda and addressing key governance challenges. Her appointment is seen as a positive step for the state’s administrative leadership.
